Volume 7 completes coverage of the passerines (also known as the songbirds or perching birds) and provides detailed descriptions of 168 species, including the flycatchers, currawongs, riflebirds, ravens, bowerbirds, grass finches, swallows and white-eyes. There are also 54 colour plates by birds artists which depict all extant species in fine detail. The information on each species is presented in sections: field identification, habitat, distribution and population, movements, food, social organisation, social behaviour, voice, breeding, and plumages and external morphology. The accounts include black and white illustrations of behavioural postures and plumage features, maps showing breeding and non-breeding distribution, and sonagrams of songs and calls. Each account concludes with a full list of references.
